There are many factors affecting higher performance. One of the most important aspects is psychological control of athletes. For this reason, a number of attempts, including PSIS R-5 (Mahoney et al., 1988) and ACSI-28 (Smith et al., 1995), have been made to estimate athletes' psychological skill levels and devise proper mental training programs to improve relevant psychological skills. Although these instruments are designed to assess psychological skills specific to sport, there is a need for instruments that assess a broader range of psychological skill possessed by athletes. With the emergence of competition risk theory (Shiyan, 2005) in the field of sports science, there should have been an increasing emphasis on identifying the nature of athletes' psychological skills related to superior performance in competition. The purpose of this study was to confirm the factorial structure of athletic competition psychological skill through confirmatory factor analysis. Based on the psychological investigation methods and strategies, including secondary research, psychological measurement, logical analysis and statistical treatment, the results of this research can be concluded as the followings:(1) Athletes psychological skills are defined as "in the special competition situation, athletes have the ability of mobilizing, regulating and controlling their own inner activities and psychological state; that is, the proper ability to dealt with and regulate the psychological factors which affect action performance t " .(2) The preliminary conceptual basis for athletic competition psychological skill was referred from ACSI-28 (Smith et al.,1995) and other literatures. The final vision athletic psychological skill instrument contains items with five subscales (cognitive strategies, Motivation, coordination ability, Concentration, Confidence) .(3) The Cronbach's a coefficient (an index of internal consistency) was moderately acceptable as well as some multicollinearity problems. The results of EFA and CFA acceptable reliability and construct validity.(4) The differences of psychological skills among elite athletes and non-elite athletes were found. Specifically, elite athletes scored higher on each subscale than non-elite athletes. (5) The frequency distribution of psychological skills of China excellent archers are: concentration, cognitive strategies, confidence, motivation, coordination ability.
