This study induced the concept of coping efficacy to research on coping in Chinese adolescents. The study focused on the relations among coping styles, coping efficacy and psychological adaptation, with the Junior-Middle-School-student from Grade Two being as subjects. Based on this research, an intervention research was carried out and the effects of the coping skills training were investigated.The conclusions were as follows:1. The students with higher level of coping efficacy used more problem solving, seeking support and distraction than endurance.2. Coping styles and coping efficacy played as moderators between the stress in common life and psychological adaptation. Problem solving reduced anxiety of the students resulting from the stress, and it reduced the harm to their psychological health resulting from the stress. Avoidance and endurance increased the students' anxiety and distress, and endangered their psychological health. Higher level of coping efficacy could reduce the level of anxiety and distress of the students resulting from the stress.3. The coping skills training made the students use more problem solving and distraction than avoidance, but it had no effect on seeking support and endurance.4. For coping efficacy of the students, the effect of the coping skills training was influenced by sex. It had better effect for boys than for girls.5.The coping skills training reduced the level of anxiety of the students. It had no remarkable effect on their distress. Its effect on psychological health was influenced by sex. As to boys, it reduced their psychological health, but for girls it did not.
