Knowledge organization is the core foundation of intelligent tutoring system. The logical means of knowledge organization can effectively organize the domain knowledge together, make for content retrieval of courses, help learners build nicer cognitive structure, enhance learners'problem-solving ability, and redound to the internal processing and decision reasoning of a system. The using of the ontology to build the knowledge base by studying on the knowledge organization and representation from the perspectives of knowledge engineering has become the current research focus.Because of the nicer concept hierarchy and its support to the logical reasoning, ontological thinking has been used to describe the objects, attributes and correlations of knowledge areas in artificial intelligence field since the late 20th century. Derived from philosophy, ontology attracted great attention and was wildly applied in computer field, as it's a kind of conceptual model and modeling tools to describing knowledge system on both semantic and knowledge level. But, in the field of education, the ontology modeling of subject knowledge lacks of the guidance of systemic education theory and learning science, mostly according to the inherent logical structure of teaching material and the understanding and experience of the constructer. Such kind of subject knowledge model wanted for the functions of facilitating learmers'internalization of knowledge and optimization of cognitive structure, and less presented the advanced concepts of education theory and instructional system design. Nevertheless, it's those functions and the advanced thoughts and concepts make the important differences for ontology application from education and other fields. This dissertation firstly summarily dissertates and analyses the origin of ontology concept, the relationship between ontology and semantic meaning, the definitions, types, functions and characteristics of ontology, and also the meaning of ontology research. Whereafter is the brief introduction of the model theory of knowledge, the formalized model, and the modeling primitives, languages, characteristics and fundamentals, and tools of ontology modelling, especially focused on the several methods of ontology modelling. Then, it dissertates the theoretical basis of educational subject knowledge modeling based on ontology, mainly referring to knowledge organization theory and learning science theory. Knowledge organization theory includes the essential and principles of knowledge organization, while learning science theory involves Bruner's Theory of Cognitive Development, Ausubel's assimilation theory of learning, constructive learning theory, cognitive information processing theory, and so on.This thesis strongly emphasizes the exploratory research on methodology for subject knowledge modeling of educational ontology, based on the theoretical method and correlative practical experience of knowledge organization and learning science theory, and accordingly put forward the specific request, principles, methods and processes of ontology modeling to strengthen the educational functions of ontology model of subject knowledge from the perspective of optimizing cognitive structure and improving learning ability. Also, to offer references for other application research of educational ontology, thereby to promote a broader and deeper application of ontology in education domain, the study presents a systemic view on the educational application of ontology by classifying the subject knowledge ontologies and educational ontologies from the extent of organization of subject knowledge and sharing of educational ontology. In the end, the author of this paper practised the modeling methods presented above by constructing a subject knowledge ontology as an example.
