As we know, English writing ability is one of the most important communicative abilities for English learners. It is pointed out in the New Standard for English Curriculum in China that one of the purposes of the English course in high schools is to "pay special attention to improving the students' ability to think and express ideas in English and to laying a good foundation for their future development and lifelong study". Nevertheless, for many reasons, neither the teachers nor the students pay enough attention to English writing. One of the reasons is that it is very difficult to improve English writing competence effectively in a short time by traditional means. Therefore, it is urgent to explore an effective way to enhance students' writing proficiency for us English teachers. The Task-based Language Teaching (TBLT) approach, which emphasizes "learning by doing", has not only gained great popularity around the world, but also been explicitly advocated in the New Standard for English Curriculum. At the same time, with the rapid development of information technology, the Internet as a teaching aid is playing a more and more important role in English instruction. More and more teachers are thus attempting to integrate TBLT with computers to serve teaching. This thesis attempts to explore an effective way to improve senior learners' writing proficiency through the implementation of TBLT with the aid of the Internet. Combining the task-design model of Jane Willis with TBLT and taking the advantages of the Internet, the author designs a series of tasks to improve students' writing competence. In this thesis, the author firstly introduces theories related to TBLT and Net-based Language Teaching (NBLT). Then, a writing teaching model by applying TBLT with the aid of the Internet is proposed. Furthermore, this approach is proved to be effective through about one-year experiment. Nevertheless, this experiment is far from perfect for various reasons. Suggestions are thus supplemented for further studies.
