Among the four basic skills (listening, speaking, reading and writing), listening is the most important. Due to all kinds of reasons, the training concerning the listening skill has not gained enough attention in the middle school English teaching for a long time. As the further reform in the basic education, especially the reform about New Course, the middle school English teaching and the testing regulation are bettered bit by bit. Listening is added in the test and the middle school English teachers gradually realize the importance of listening. Consequently, listening teaching is really important and urgent in the middle school English teaching. However, the positivism research about the listening training for middle school students in order to improve their listening skill is not so much, let alone the research about the listening micro-skills. Lots of problems or wrong conceptions exist in the English listening teaching, so the problem that how to develop the effective listening training in middle school still puzzles teachers and students.This paper analyzes the difficulties and obstacles in listening comprehension of middle school students through the questionnaires and the talks with teachers under such a background. Furthermore, it also analyses the present situation and the existed problems in middle school English teaching. According to the theories about the listening comprehension and the method principles of the listening teaching, I propose a way to solve the problem that how to improves the listening skills of middle school students based on the teaching practice. That is to develop the listening micro-skills of students. Moreover the paper analyses ten micro-skills focused on improving listening skills and provides the method of training, such as listening and distinguishing the sound, reasonable forecast, analyzing and reasoning, catching the main information and taking the brief note. This paper tries to find the new way and method of English listening teaching in middle school, and calls for the enough attention to the listening micro-skills of teachers in middle school in order to improve the listening level and the communication ability of students.
