Promoted by the study of the second language acquisition and learning strategy,listening strategy training has been carrying out systematically from the 1990s. As anew and developing teaching model, listening strategy training has been graduallyrecognized by its value in improving learners' listening ability, consciousness of usingthe right listening strategies and so on. Also, the Eighth English Curriculum Reformof the Senior Middle School takes "strengthen the learning strategy training tostudents for helping them become autonomous in language learning" as a keyteaching principle. Under the previous theoretical and practical background, the thesisfocuses on examining the effectiveness of listening strategy training in the seniormiddle school through an experiment. After the systematic explanation of the listeningcomprehension and listening strategy training, the thesis designs a direct andintegrated listening strategy training model according to the present situation oflanguage teaching in our senior middle schools, and applies the model to thisexperiment. Strictly following the steps of the experimental design, the thesisconcludes as follows:1 Compared with the traditional teaching method of listening comprehension, the listening strategy training improves learners' listening ability more greatly. The experimental group outperformed the control one during the whole experiment. The gap between the two groups becomes large at the end of the study.2 Compared with the traditional teaching method of listening comprehension, the listening strategy training improves learners' consciousness of using listening strategy more greatly. From the quantitative analysis, the training helps learners improve the ability of using listening strategies on the whole, especially the metacognitive strategies and the cognitive strategies; the qualitative analysis supports the previous quantitative results in the detailed and concrete form.3 Compared with the traditional teaching method of listening comprehension, the listening strategy training basically improves learners' affective state in listening comprehension.
