These years English teaching has been developing very fast from teaching materials to teaching methods in order to meet different needs of different people. The issue of new English curriculum for middle school sets higher demands on better teaching and learning methods and effects as well. In order to reform teaching concept, to cultivate some English practical abilities, to enhance the efficiency of classroom teaching and to train students'self-teaching ability, we should use activities based approach. We studied the use of activities based approach for a Whole year. The theory of activities based approach is also talked in the paper. Activities based approach is an important way to promote the development of subjectivity. We found that the most suitable activities should be related to the teaching aims and the student's levels. We made some surveys to analyze and compare the activities we used in class. Now we have no doubt to say that activities based approach can improve the student's grades. The more important thing is it can arouse the students'interest of learning English and improve the ability of using English. At the same time, we teachers gain a lot though using activities based approach.
