English reading course in junior middle school is very important. The teacher should teach students the knowledge of the language and help students get the information effectively. The teacher should also take appropriate strategies to teach the students how to master reading methods and skills so as to improve their reading abilities. We have realized the importance of teaching reading by analyzing the junior English curriculum, the selection of the textbooks and its great proportion in junior school English teaching. Reading comprehension is very important in exercises and exams. Nowadays, reading comprehension covers 20 points among 130 points in the junior middle school graduation exam in Suzhou. The cloze test is also based on the reading comprehension.However, English reading teaching result is not satisfying in actualities. Though most students devote a great deal of time and energy in reading, only few of them have developed high reading proficiency. In English classes students master limited skills. They don't read much. The students only read the articles in their textbooks and papers. They read slowly. Most of them study only for the purpose of passing exams. Therefore, a thorough study of English reading course for Grade 9 students is of great importance in improving English teaching in middle schools.This essay aims to find out the current problems by investigating and analyzing the actualities in reading. The actualities in reading will be investigated and analyzed through questionnaires and interviews. Meanwhile, we need to analyze the reasons of these phenomena and teach students reading skills and strategies. Our goal is to arouse the students' interest in reading English and to help them to form a good reading habit in order that they can promote their reading strategies and abilities. |
