The Professionalization Of University Counselors' Work In Our Country

Currently,there are nearly 20 million students in the universities of our country.According to the preparation of 1:200,we can estimate that there are probably more than 100 thousand university counselors in the society.The huge ideological and political education teams should naturally become the important point of our studies.In August of 2004,the central Communist party promulgated the document "Opinion about concerning further strengthening and improving ideological and political education of university student"(also called the central document No.16)affirmed again the vital roles of university counselors in enhancing and improving the ideological and political education in the university.With the promulgation of the document No.16 for a development chance,theories workers and practice workers study the work of university counselors and give us many different opinions.Particularly,the research about professionalization of university counselors' work absorbs more and more concerns in our society. My research will analyze the history origin,development and present developing condition of the university counselors' works from the subjects of politics,management,pedagogy,psychology, philosophy,sociology and so on.At the same time,my research will compare with the professionalization experience of student affairs in the United States.It is maybe the first time to study systematically about the professionalization of university counselors' work in our country.Chapter 1 introduced the research of origin,method,innovation and the research condition of university counselors' work in our country in details.Chapter 2 of thesis elaborated the basic content of the professionalization of university counselors' work in our country,putting forward the related define of two concepts which are university counselor and professionalization.Especially,this part introduced the main standards of professionalization of university counselors' work in our country based on investigating the studies of professionalization in other areas.Chapter 3 of thesis introduced the reason of putting forward the object and its necessity of the professionalization of university counselors' work in our country from history development, currently present condition and development opportunities and challenges.University counselors' work in our country has experienced four development stages:"political counselor" work, political counselor system establishment,re-building up political counselors' good reputation and university counselors' work expanding as well as the role fixed position also experienced from one to diverse.Although the role fixed position of university counselor already has experienced from single of the political character culturist to a person educating and undertaking a university student to synthesize comprehensive manners,training a university student to have political character still will always be the core mission of our country university counselors' work.The professionalization of university counselors' work in our country faces not only a few difficulties and challenge but also rare development opportunities,particularly after the Marxist theories as a class academics established.The Marxist theories developing and constructing engineering deeply will provide strong development motive for the professionalization of university counselors' work in our country.Chapter 4 of thesis compared with the professionalization experience of student affairs in the United States and emphasized to study the development process and the current general situation of professionalization in the student affairs of American university.In this part,the research investigated the history of professionalization and development in present condition in the student affairs of American university,mainly from the professional training,the profession standard,the professional contents and the professional association.After the foundation of analyzing and elaborating,the end part of thesis putted forward related thinking about the professionalization of university counselors' work in our country.The professionalization of university counselors' work in our country can not get away from further development of the Marxist theories and related academics,also needing university counselors' professional self awakening and promoting.The professionalization of university counselors' (?) our country impossibly accomplishes in one step,but will be a long-term of development process.
