| Objective To study the incidence of injury and its risk factors among primary and secondary school students in Guangzhou,and to provide evidence for intervention and monitoring.Methods Annual injuries occurred among 24168 primary and secondary school students and campus security situation of 22 schools were investigated by questionnaires and survey in Guangzhou in 2008.Logistic regression analysis and classsfication tree were used to analysze the injury risk factors.Results The injury incidence of primary and secondry school students in Guangzhou was 21.63%,the rate of out-patient or emergency patients with injury was 8.80%,and the rate of hospital patient was 0.85%,and the rate of leaving of absence more than one day because of injury was 6.30%;The leading types of injury were sprain(9.57%),fall(6.53%),cut(5.06%), collision(3.98%),burn(1.78%),animal injury(1.37%) and traffic injury(1.24%).The rate of violece injury was 1.51%.The result of logistic regression showed that sex,age,soles of wear and so on were related factors of injury.The classsfication tree analysis showed that district of family location(χ~2=36.44,P=0.000) was the most important factor of traffic injury;The rate of traffic injury in Baiyun district and Zengcheng city(2.1%) were higher than Yuexiu district (0.7%).the most important factor of traffic injury in Yuexiu district was sex(χ~2=6.03,P=0.014), but in Baiyun distric and Zengcheng city was age(χ~2=6.03,P=0.014).Among 22 schools,10 schools staircase railings or railings outside the gallery were lower than national standards;3 schools didn't have any fire extinguishers in teaching buildings;8 schools fire extinguishers hadn't been checked regularly.Conclusions The leading types of primary and secondary school students injury in Guangzhou were sprain,fall,cut,collision and burn;The main factors of injury were sex,age, family address and so on.The campus potential safety hazards were serious.
