The 21st century is an era with the rapid development in technology, knowledge and economy, and lifelong learning has become the main theme, so people must keep on learning and work on self-education in order to keep pace with the rhythm of the times. Therefore, the self-education research has been an important issue. However, we are still unsatisfactory with our practical self-education. What is the reason? What factors should we pay attention to in practical self-education? This study is trying to answer these questions.Through the collation and classification of relevant information on self-education in the past 10 years, we know current situation and problems of Chinese self-education research in the past 10 years; based on previous research, the concept of self-education in this study is: self-education refers to the individual social activities in accordance with social norms and self-development needs and on the basis of self-consciousness, in which individual want to realize their own physical and mental development through self- awareness, self-experience, self-regulation and self-improvement. The self-education is the individual activities in their own intellectual, physical, moral education, labor and aesthetic aspects of emotional self-awareness and self -improvement. On the new historical background, today's self-education has some new characteristics.On the basis of philosophy, psychology, education foundation, the thesis discusses self-education significance for individual and society. The thesis focus on analysis internal factors(self-knowledge, self-experience, self-regulation, self-improve-ment)and external factors(family, school, community)of self-education formation.We should carry out more studies in various fields and build a self-education-based society to promote continuous common progress of all members and society.
