With the increasing ecnomic and technological communication between China and foreign countries, English is becoming more and more important in daily life. Through reading a mass of English materials, on one hand, students can enhance their own ideation and intellect. On the other hand, they can enrich their knowledge and enlarge their vocabulary. Therefore, the teaching of English reading in senior high schoolsHowever, presently speaking, The overall situation of students'English reading ability is not good. Most of students can't meet the requirements of English Curriclum Standard. Thus improving this situation is imminent. The author finds out main problems in English reading teaching by investigating the current situation of English reading teaching. What's more, on the basis of reading theories and research data, the author sums up main problems in English reading teaching and puts forward corresponding solutions.The paper consists of five parts.The first part is introduction part, including the background of study and the main aim and significance of this research.The second part gives a brief intrduction of the theories of reading and reading teaching, including the concept and aim of reading; three reading approaches; the schema theory, the text and textual analysis and reading strategies.The third part is about reaserch methodology. The methodology consists of two research methods—classroom observation and questionnaire, including the purpose, target and content of research.In the fourth part, the research shows the analysis of current situation of English reading teaching in senior high schools, including the collection and analysis of the data. In this section, some main problems of English reading teaching in senior high schools are summarized, which are mainly in two aspects: the problems reflected in students'learning and teachers'teaching.In the fifth part, some corresponding coutermeasures are introduced according to the main problems of English reading teaching in senior high school.
