Leading-in is not only the starting point of reading teaching,but also the key point to stimulate students' interests in learning.The main function of lead-in is to make the transition between old and new learning tasks smoothly.And how to lead-in,at the beginning of a class,is particularly important.To lead in a reasonable,elegant way in English teaching class can create a great atmosphere of English learning,stimulate students' enthusiasm for English learning,cause students' concern to the subject,resolve the difficulties of the content that students need to study,and achieve the transition between new and old learning materials in order to lay a good foundation for new lesson,which greatly improve the teaching effect in English reading class.The survey,whose research base is the fourth middle school of Baota District,Yan'an City,in the north of Shaanxi,aims to understand the situation of high school lead-in in English reading,and selected a total of 150 students and five English teachers in two classes in the first grade for class observation,questionnaire and interview.The record way of class observation is making notes and recordings,and the data collected from the questionnaire is processed by percentage,followed by a semi-closed interview with nine students and five teachers presented in form,and all the data collection is finished by myself alone.The survey and collating the relevant data show that the current situation of lead-in in high school English reading has been widely concerned.The teachers and students recognized the necessity of lead-in in English reading teaching,and it is almost used in every new English reading teaching.At the same time,the way of leading is also diversified.Most of the time PPT is used as a medium for lead-in of the content teaching.As a starting part to introduce new lesson,the role of lead-in is obvious.However,the inevitable problems also exists:First,from the students' point of view,teachers' lead-in is lack of novelty,interests,vividness and clearness.They hope that the teachers could make the lead-in part more funny,meaningful,active,and consider a lot of the majority of students.Second,from the teachers' standpoint,lead-in is too short(in two minutes generally)to bring in in limited 45 minutes,and they can't take care of the majorities.The contradiction between them requires teachers to spend more time on lead-in,to design more diversified and interesting class lead-in,to make it integrate the class truly,and to attract every student's attention,so that it can connect new and old knowledge as a bridge to reach the purpose of meaningful learning.
