Study Of The Intervening Effect Of Oral Health To The 7～14 Years Old Students In Suzhou City

Objective To propose a intervening protocol to oral health of students which adapt to contemporary Chinese situation,one intervening trial of oral health to the 7～14 years old students was carried out in Suzhou city.Methods 608 students years range 7～14 were selected from 4 different schools and were divided into two groups randomly, intervening group and control group. After oral examination, the intervening group was intensified oral health instruction, then pit and fissure sealant(PFS) and fluoride varnish were carried on tooth 46. One year later, two group students were follow up. 305 students'oral hygiene status were evaluated by Plaque Index(PI), then oral hygiene reinforce program were carried out. The scores of PI pre and after oral hygiene reinforce were analyzed.Results There was no significant difference between two groups before trial. One year after intervention, the prevalence of permanent tooth decay were 17.4% in intervening group compared 27.7% to control group, the prevalence of Six-year-old tooth decay were 16.4% in intervening group compared 22.8% to control group, the prevalence of tooth 46 decay were 11.1% in intervening group compared 17.2% to control group, all the difference were statistically significant. The incidence of intervening group were 8.9% compared 24.4% to control group, relative risk(RR)=0.36,95%CI :0.24-0.55. Plaque Index(PI) were 1.3 compared 0.53 after one-year oral hygiene reinforce, the difference were statistically significant.Conclusion The intervening protocol of oral health could effectively decrease the prevalence rate and incidence of teeth. Oral hygiene reinforce was one of the effective methods to prevent oral diseases in schools.
