To study the reasoning ability and the executive function characteristics of children in primary school,by using methods of test and experiment. To explore the executive function development between the students with high reasoning ability and the ones with low reasoning ability.140 children in primary school were selected and the reasoning ability of them were measured by SPM. According to the reasoning grades, the students with high reasoning ability and the ones with low were chosen. Then the characteristics of their updating, inhibiting and shifting abilities were explored. And three executive functions between the students with high reasoning ability and the ones with low were compared using independent—samples T test. The conclusions are as follows:1 The reasoning ability are developable. From the results of our statistics, the reasoning ability of Grade 3 children is significantly lower than that of Grade 5 children. And the reasoning ability of students in primary school has no signicant difference between boys and girls; the differences between the high and the low are significant.2 The updating and shifting abilities between students with high reasoning ability and the ones with low reasoning ability have significant differences. The updating and shifting abilities of the low ones are lower than that of the high ones, while the inhibiting ability has no significant difference.
