The key of maintaining the sustainable development of volleyball game is to strengthen the development of volleyball reserves.The reserves of athletic volleyball are playing a significant role in determining whether Chinese female volleyball team could win the championship in the 2008 Olympic Games,or its male team could come into the top 8,or its female team could get rid of the Up-and- Down vicious circle and keep improving or its male team could make some breakthrough.To recognize and analyze the status quo of volleyball reserves more systematically,the essay defines athletic volleyball reserves as registered volleyball players who age from 13 to 20.In the athletic sports,to improve the development of reserves is of great importance to guarantee the quality of front line sports team.The conclusion is based on researching and analyzing the learning,training conditions and relating factors of Chinese young reserves(aged from 13 to 20) by referring to historical documents,interviewing,using questionnaires and processing statistics.The conclusion is as follows:1,the average age of Chinese athletic volleyball reserves ranges mainly from 15 to 16.The average time for young reserves who are 15 to 16 to play volleyball is between 5.5years and 7years.the inappropriate sporting mechanism leads to problems such as unsustainable development of players,placing too much stress on players or the "early ageing" of young players etc.Athletes believe that it is more cons than pros for young players join in the front line before 20,for it is harmful to their developments.2,the educational level of Chinese young athletic volleyball players are mainly those from universities and polytechnics.Many of the young reserves do not pay enough attention to their educational studies.They have too little time to spend on their educational studies,so they are not good at their studies.Besides,they gradually lose interests in studies and get intoa "vicious circle".As to the testing method aimed at the athletes,open-book examinations which have been given the testing range,close-book examinations which have been given the testing range, homework tests and no tests etc.These methods do no goodto improve their learning abilities.Tshort of studying time,conflicts between training and studying,too tiered to study and lack of proper environment for studying.3,the main motivation of athletes to be trained is to honor the country, to nurture a sense of competition and to join in the sports training team in order to go to colleges as a special student.As to the time of training, Athletes think that the training time is too long and very unsatisfied. They behold that the time within 4 hours is a proper length for them to try their best.4,the average age of front line coaches in China is 41.3,while the average age of second line coaches is 35,which are perfect for teaching. Additionally,they have degrees above bachelor and strong sporting experience,which are very beneficial for teaching Chinese volleyball athletes.Currently,the thing that the coaches need to improve is to complete their special theoretical knowledge in volleyball teaching.The special knowledge is often accumulated in trainings and real competitions. So it is not complete enough and need further improvement in a more systematical and theoretical way..5,the major problems to the development of Chinese athletic volleyball reserves are career worries after retiring,training systems that gives too much pressure to youngsters and the imbalance between educational mechanism and reserves developing mechanism.
