With the social development and progress, the increasing requirement on citizens of various nationalities is seemingly becoming a necessity and thus the issue of civic education curriculum is gradually becoming a heated topic in the world. To meet the needs of the trend of globalization and Chinese modern development, we should try to learn from the advanced experience and appropriate practices of other nations in civic education curriculum, hoping to cultivate qualified citizens as well as so-called "world citizens". Based on this perspective, the paper mainly explores goals content, implementation modalities, ways and means of implementation and their characteristics in primary and secondary schools of the USA, in order to get valuable implications on our national civic education practices.This thesis includes flowing sections: First, this section mainly expounds the background, the goal, the meaning, the thinking and the way of research.Besides, this section will card-index related theories. This section mainly clarify several related conceptions and the connection of them, such as citizen, citizen's education and social curricula. At the same time, the analysis of domestic and foreign scholars on the study of civic education curriculum is concluded. The third part introduces the status quo of a civic education curriculum in primary and secondary schools of American. In this part, the paper shows the goal, content, implementation of the citizenship education curriculum which is embodied in the standard. Then I conclude the elementary characteristics in American. Chapter IV analyzes the characteristics of civic education curriculum in primary and secondary schools of the United States. It includes the curriculum goals, course content, curriculum implementation ways and implementation methods of curriculum. The fifth chapter describes the effectiveness, the existing problems and development trends of the civic education curriculum in primary and secondary schools in the United States. The sixth part concentrates on the current situation of the national curriculum implementation of civic education and puts forward some suggestions. Based on the retrospect of the historical practices in our primary and secondary schools, the author analyzes civic education in schools and its related curriculum implementation models and thereby put forward pieces of advice on the reform and development of civic education curriculum in our country.
