Motivation of university teachers is to let the teachers take full initiatives and to use their creative power to the fullest extent, and to raise the teaching quality and efficiency of the university and to ensure the vigorous and sustainable development of the university. How to raise job enthusiasm for the university teachers has become the emphasis of motivation research of the university teachers. This thesis would perform the research based on substantial evidence by using the Motivation-Hygiene Theory of Herzberg.This thesis takes the university teachers from 5 universities in Nanjing for example, and does quantitative and qualitative analysis with the questionnaire and visitatorial materials of individual.To explore job satisfaction among the different genders, different ages and different titles of university teachers , I carried out a comparative study about teachers of different characteristics. Analysed the different preferences for the eight factors, the order is: work itself, working environment, interpersonal relationships, job title assessment, leadership management, economic rewards, job performance and training for promotion. Finally, I made several suggestions about the design of motivation mechanism.Divided into five parts, the thesis studies the motivation of university teachers. The first part provides you with this thesis'theoretical values and realistic significance. The second part focuses on the review and summary of the production and development about the motivation theory of the west world originating from management and psychology, about bound profit theory from management economics and about our motivation theory from Confucian cultures. The third part does quantitative and qualitative analysis with the questionnaire and visitatorial materials of individual. Finally, in order to raise job enthusiasm several suggestions are given with more detailed proposals and be the reference of the management in our universities.
