Contemporary college students are in a time when the society is constantly changing and diverse views and cultures are surging. At the same time, information and media tech are pricking up this social transformation. College students, as citizens with relatively advanced knowledge compared with other groups, are most easily influenced by this social revolution due to their active thinking, strong desire for knowledge and sensitivity for new things. Under the shock of multi-cultures, temptations of rich materials and political revolution, their thinking, affection and ideology bare sharp-cut brand of the time and gradually become more complex and ambivalent. As a whole, they advocate freedom of personality and thinking, seek realization of their potentials and economic affluence, but on the other side of the coin , they are sometimes selfish, restless and extreme, so some people call them the so-called 'burdened generation' or 'lost generation' and even 'degenerate generation'. In a time of knowledge as first productivity, talents are the fundamentality of national prosperity, the college students ,as our nation's elites for future construction, their moral stature and spiritual outlook is closely associated with the honor and prosperity of Chinese nation. Patriotism is the core of national spirit which is also the footstone for national unity, social contradiction, moral reshape and establishment self-value system, so patriotic education in the college students is a great project for now and future and is worthy of more recognition of our pedagogues.With regard to the deficiency of patriotic educational research in the past, the author combine the basic materialism theory with practice and analyze the connotation of patriotism then further discourse upon two important topics -cultivation and behavioral steering of patriotism. The author also discuss some concrete feasible measures on the implementation of patriotic education.In the introduction, the author introduces the practical and theoretical significance of the research, evidence of his point and way of research. In the first part of the main text, the author analyze the scientific connotation and concrete content of patriotism. Patriotism is not only a kind of affection , but also a value orientation for one's life including rich connotation and contents of the time. So we should take different measures according to different levels of its connotation. In the second part, the author analyze the characteristics of college students' mentality and thoughts and then discuss the principle, content and ways of cultivation for patriotic affection and spirits with the purpose of aiding the educating and educated to carry through education and self-education. The boosting of patriotic affection and inspiration of patriotic spirits is the core of patriotic education which is the foundations of patriotic values. The third part focuses on the status quo of patriotism in college student. It put forward a orientation for their behavior and stresses the importance of dialectic thinking, self-control ability and rational patriotism. The last part brings forward some executable measures for undergraduates' patriotic education in details in which the author uses some successful methods of other countries for reference with the intention of presenting some advices for the management of higher education on how to make full use of human, material, and cultural resources in the school and the society outside to serve the patriotic education. The appendix of the essay provide a questionnaire and a report of its analysis whose results have been quoted in the preamble.
