| The "English Curriculum Standards for Senior Highs" issued by The Chinese Ministry of Education in July, 2001 stipulates that the general target of the English teaching in the period of basic education is to train the students' comprehensive ability of using the language. And to develop the students' cultural awareness has been for the first time listed in the Curriculum Standards. According to this new tendency, we have seen some new changes in our textbooks, and during the process of language teaching, we have encountered a few difficulties in the integration of linguistic goal and the goal of cultural awareness. The theme of this thesis has been focused on the integration of linguistic teaching and cultural awareness teaching under the new English Curriculum Standards for Senior Highs.More and more attention has been paid to the development of learners' cultural awareness in the field of second language teaching and quite a lot of achievements have been made as well since the 20th century. To improve quality-oriented education, both teachers and learners should focus on the combination of the pursuit of academic achievements and the development of cultural awareness. To help English learners learn English more effectively and deal with the cultural shocks and conflicts more properly, we need to build up students' cross-cultural awareness and communicative competence during language teaching through intentional guidance, training, and assessment.The key problems discussed in this thesis are, under the new curriculum standards, what are the problems we are facing, and the strategies and methods that we can possibly take when we are integrating linguistic teaching and cultural teaching in the high school English teaching. |
