Higher education is a final and supreme phase of all the education system, which is not qualified for all the young students of the right age. Before getting into the college school, every candidate has to pass a series of examinations, and their prior study is also inseparable from the support of their family and earnings etc. In that case, all the candidates of the right age have completely different chances to go to college school due to different living areas, sex and race which leads to the issue of whether there are equal opportunities in higher education. Higher education can influence the future career, earning, reputation and social status of all the students to some extent, which is the reason why equality in higher education has been paid widely attention to. The main issue of this thesis is how equal opportunity in higher education affects social stratification. Based on this issue, the writer of this thesis relies on the educational investment in human capital theory and education selection theory to finish the following researches.1.Making a research on the main problems about equality in higher education and the essential reasons which leads to these problems.2.Making a research on how and in which aspects the equality problems in higher education influent the social stratification.3.Making an analysis of ways to solve the social stratification problems affected by the inequality in higher education according to the prior researches and finding a solution.This thesis is divided into six sections. The introduction part introduces the research background and significance of this thesis. The first chapter is the definition of related concepts. The second chapter is the analysis of main issues about the characteristics of higher education and impact factors which cause unequal opportunities in higher education. In the third chapter, there is analysis from the perspective of history and reality. Besides, the writer proposes some relevant measures in the fourth chapter. At last, the conclusion part focuses on the essence and shortcomings of this thesis.
