Workplace Friendship is defined as nonexclusive workplace relations that involve mutual trust, commitment, reciprocal liking and shared interest or values, as well as provided social supports. The research on workplace friendship can promote the sound development of the organizations, and gradually becomes the content of career psychology research. Since the 1980s, after 20 years'research, it has got comparatively rich research achievements. However, the research started lately in China; it's almost blank in this research.This paper was to investigate the content of workplace friendship as well as to study the consequence of workplace friendship, which is based on Chinese culture. For these purposes, some standard research methods, such as literature review, literature and survey were used in the research. In addition, exploratory factor analysis (EFA), confirmatory factory analysis (CFA), regression and one-way ANOVA were also applied for data analysis. Almost 1000 employees in 9 cities all over the country were surveyed. The main conclusions are as following:First of all, under the Chinese culture, the workplace friendship includes workplace interaction,interpersonal similarity and workplace atmosphere. The three factors are fitting better in theory model. Moreover, the reliability and validity of the questionnaire both meet the requirements of psychometric.Secondly, during the research on antecedents of workplace friendship, it found that interpersonal trust has no significant prediction to workplace friendship; the cohesion and its factors have significant prediction to workplace friendship.Thirdly, the research discussed the relationship between workplace friendship and its consequence. It was discovered that workplace friendship and its three factors have positive impact on affective commitment,work performance, passive impact on intentions to turnover.Fourthly, the research discussed about the demographical variable's effects on workplace friendship. The demographical variable included sex, age, education, working year and workplace nature. We found that the employees of different sex have significant differences on workplace friendship; the employees of different workplace nature have significant differences on workplace interaction and workplace atmosphere; the employees of different ages,different working years,different education levels don't have significant differences.Current limitations and future research orientation were also discussed at the end of the dissertation.
