Objective:Using Juvenile victimization Questionnaire (JVQ) to investigate the prevalence of juvenile victimization and poly-victimization and study their acceptability and evaluate their reliability and validity. To investigate the factors that affect the prevalence of victimization, such as age, gender, only child in the family, residence, socio-economic status, drinking and smoking, and playing video games.Methords:Stratified cluster sampling method were used to collect 3155 junior and senior high middle school students from 12 general secondary middle schools in two places in Shandong province in june 2009. Four instruments were used for the data collection according to research purpose:Juvenile Victimization Questionnaire (JVQ), The Screen for Child Anxiety Related Emotional Disorders (SCARED), Depression Self-rating Scale for Children (DSRSC),and general information questionnaire. All data obtained were statistically analyzed by software package SPSS 11.5 for windows. Statistical methods such as Cronbach'a coefficient, Test-retest coefficient, factor analysis,χ2 test, Logistic regression were used to assess the questionnaire.Results:1 The results of item analysis showed that the item-module correlation coefficients were significant and the CR of all items were more than 3.0 (P<0.01). The module structure of the Chinese Self-report Version of Juvenile Victimization Questionnaire was basically the same as the original structure. The convergent validity of the Chinese version of JVQ was also the same as that of the original JVQ. The correlation coefficients between 5 modules ranged from 0.11 to 0.39, while the correlation coefficients of 5 modules with the total score ranged from 0.34 to 0.78. The Cronbach'αwas 0.75, P<0.01,and the test-retest reliability was 0.82,P<0.01.2 66.31%of the juvenile had experienced at least one form of the 33 victimizations. 47.00%of the juvenile had experienced at least one form of conventional crimes,14.33% had experienced at least one form of child maltreatment,21.01%had experienced at least one form of peer and sibling victimization,3.30%had experienced at least one form of sexual victimization, and 44.53%had experienced at least one form of witnessing or direct victimization. The top four victimizations were witnessing to assault without weapon(28.78%),personal theft(28.46%), vandalism (24.75%) and burglary of family household (23.70%)3 The incidence of poly-victimization was 16.89%,the low poly-victimization was 12.29%and the high poly-victimization was 4.60%.There were significant differences in the incidence of poly-victimization between boys and girls, junior and senior middle school students, single and non-single child, inferior and superior academic achievements, poor and rich families.4 The results of the Logistic regression demonstrated that the prevalence of poly-victimization was influenced by many factors. Younger juveniles, boys, only child in the family, lower mother's educational level, living in the countryside, lower socio-economic status, drinking, playing video games, watching pornographic books or audio-visual products, anxiety symptom and depression symptom affected the happening of poly-victimization.Conclusions:1 The Chinese version of Juvenile Victimization Questionnaire is reliable and valid in Chinese middle school students.2 Relatively high prevalence ratio of poly-victimization in juvenile is found, and different gender, single child in family, stage of education, academic achievements, socialeconomic status can predict different prevalence ratio of poly-victimization.3 Several factors can influence the prevalence of poly-victimization, such as age, gender, only child in the family, mother'educational level, residence, socio-economic status, drinking, playing video games, watching pornographic books or audio-visual products, anxiety symptom and depression symptom..
