The Study Of Beijing Olympics Influence To Environmental Awareness Of College Students In Beijing

As a social consciousness and concept of values, environmental awareness guides human beings'attitudes and behaviors towards the environment in daily life, so enhancing the environmental awareness is the basic measure and effective way to restrain and improve the environmental pollution. Beijing Green Olympics provides an opportunity to upgrade environmental awareness of the public. Scholars have conducted systematic studies of Green Olympics' impact towards the city's environment. However, they haven't conducted enough studies on environmental awareness, and haven't given sufficient attention.to university students who supported environment protection and volunteered for Beijing Olympics. Therefore, this research choose to study university students of Beijing, analyze the Beijing Olympic Games'influence towards university students'environmental awareness by comparing such surveys before and after Beijing Olympic Games, identify the deficiencies, and make recommendations accordingly.Based on the knowledge on sociology and logics, with a combined method of qualitative and quantitative study, this study investigates the influence of Beijing Olympics on the college students in Beijing and makes the following conclusion:1. In terms of environmental knowledge, college students in Beijing had a good grasp of knowledge in environmental protection had great concern about the global environmental issues and showed a low awareness of the environmental laws and regulations.2. In terms of environmental assessment, College students had a clear picture of the environmental pollution and considered it to be ranked second among the social issues. And thought that the environmental pollutions are alleviated and environmental quality has gradually been improved. But, they also thought the "noise pollution" has become a major social hazards for it is more serious than other types of pollution. They recognized that people's poor environmental awareness is the most important reason that the environmental problems can't be solved for a long time. The environment-protect activities organized by Government during the preparing and holding periods of Beijing Olympic Games are highly praised.3. In terms of environmental attitudes, Beijing university students hold clearer attitudes towards the relationship between human and nature, changed from supporting for economic development or environmental protection to a more scientific and rational point of view that the two should be developed coordinately. They supported for green consumption. When it comes to the vital interests, some university students'performances are not active enough. They showed the tendency to depend on government and enterprise to shoulder the power of environmental protection and costs.4. In terms of environmental protection acts, college students in Beijing mainly gain environmental information from public service ads and commercials, the Internet, newspapers and magazines. They want to get the knowledge such as "green life of common sense" and "environmental protection science knowledge ", which is closely related to daily life and easy to be done. Individual environmental behaviors in their daily are performed well;, but the initiative concern about environmental information is not enough. The study also showed the enthusiasm of participating in public environmental activities is not very high for the lack of a platform.
