Education is the cornerstone of a nation. The basic education of a country reflects the modernity, the level of development and vision of the nation, and also impacts on the long-term development of the country directly.As the strongest country in the world, The United States has booming economic, flourishing technology and strong national defense. The US has made such great achievements in the past 200 years, and this is closely related to its well-developed educational system. Popularizing culture is the mission of The States'education, and the education is showing its diversity characteristics, private and public schools support the common school education.This paper titled with "The Study on U. S. Elementary and Secondary Education ", and it analyzes the respective characteristics of public schools and private ones as well as their own characteristics in common from the view of the education management model. On knowing the situation of the elementary and secondary education, we do research through comparison and analysis, trying to find a sound, efficient management model of the education.This article includes three parts, preface, body and conclusion. The body is divided into three parts too. The first part makes an overview of the development of the United States'public and private schools separately, then clarifies the crisis public schools face, puts forward the advantages and challenges of private schools and analysis the relationship between them. The second part takes research on education management model of the American public and private schools, and has a specific discussion on the scale and the educational environment of schools, school funding sources, public and private school management system, teaching methods and the results of the teaching. The third part's discussion is how to weigh the education management models, derived a revelation by comparing: we must make use of government, markets, schools and community so that we can effectively improve the quality of the education.
