| In 2009, several universities have initiated the teaching reform projects for elite student. In 2010, the Ministry of Education of The People's Republic of China will implement one special plan named"The Training Scheme of Topnotch Students in Basic Disciplines"in order to culture more creative talent students . How many elite educational models in china? How are they going and what are their advantages and disadvantages are the concerns of this study.Firstly, this paper systemizes the development of elite education and proposes its theoretical basis. In research design, by using the method of questionnaire and interview mainly, we focused on educational idea, institutional policies, curriculum system, teaching and research.It shows the"2 + X"model implemented by Shanghai Jiao Tong University has formed its distinct advantage in the comprehensive basic curriculum, excellent teachers, high-quality students, and high rate of postgraduate recommendation. However, the incompletely implemented tutorial system, over orientated professional curriculum and the incentive mechanism is its disadvantages, which can be confirmed by the students'evaluations. The"3 + X"model implemented by Northwestern Polytechnical University faces the following situation: expedite accelerated degree mechanisms, integrative basic curriculum, outstanding teachers and firm accelerated degree mechanisms is approved by students, meanwhile, tutorial system is not implemented enough, fewer students participate in research and extra-curricular activities, lower continuity of accelerated degree mechanism and so on is the main problems.In conclusion, it reveals that it is necessary and suitable to implement the elite education only in a few top universities. The forceful and completely policy system is vital to the implement of this special educational model, however, how to maintain their"elite"characters in the process of elite education is suggested to be keep in mind by those universities.
