| Wei Yuan is a famous modern Chinese patriotism thinker, philosophers, writer, reformers and an expert at the west, He is also one of the outstanding representatives of personnel groups of modern Hunan. Wei Yuan cleaved through thistles and thorns as a pioneer, which plays a vital role in the spread of western culture across China. He devoted all his life to promoting the reform, and unique point of view as well. With Wei Yuan as the research object this article is based on literature studies, field surveys, expert interviews and logical analysis. It not only explores a comprehensive and objective assessment of the words and practice of Wei Yuan in sports, but also searches for deep causes to understand the early sports cognitive status and value orientation of the intellectuals of Hunan in modern times. According to related documents back to its roots, the sources of Wei's theory in sports are found mainly due to four factors:times, culture, family and personality. The article has a specific analysis of Wei's performances in sports and summarizes four main ideas:Travel to mountains in life; Comminuting the beliefs of the two religion groups, Frequent training with talents from all directions, seeking virtuous persons and culture education advances with physical education. Wei's ideas contain naturalism, religion and western methods, which plays a positive role in the development of modern education, military and sports in history.
