Based On The Opportunity Cost Of Graduate Education To Explore Students' Aid

At present, the quality of new graduate students especially doctoral students is not high; excellent students are unevenly distributed among disciplines and research atmosphere is insufficient. Director of the Degree Office of the State Council Yang Yuliang pointed out that"currently, aid to doctoral students is too low to attract geniuses who are interested in scientific research, which is very bad to doctoral education."The paper indicates that"high funding"is becoming an international trend by comparing the funding of the graduate students in the United States, Britain, Germany and other countries. It takes Shanghai Jiao Tong University as an example to explore the strength of the graduate students'aid in China.The paper concludes that to explore the strength of the graduate students'aid requires not only based on sociological perspective of Educational Equity but also from the Economics Perspective of the opportunity cost. And thus standing on the position of students, and considering the opportunity cost of graduate education, the paper finds out the possible gains and losses to students continuing their postgraduate program, and suggests to compensate the losses so as to attract the students to choose to continue studies when they graduate.At last, based on the theoretical and practical researches, this paper provides some policy proposals in order to further improve Chinese graduate students funding system. ?...
