Individual who merely lives in the reality can choose, while abstract people can not choose. Therefore, this article from a philosophical respective to study the essence of individual choice, the basic characteristics, main impact factors and misunderstandings, then proposes a few principles for individual choice.The first part in this article discusses personal meaning and content of individual development, the essence of individual choice. The three aspects of physical existence, nature of human kind and social relations constitute the reality of the content of individual. Development of individual includes development of human capacity, development of relations between human society and liberal individuality. The essence of individual choice is development of ability to work, social relations and personality.The second part in this article discusses the basic characteristics of individual choice: the unity of dynamic creative and objective constraints, the unity of the diversities and community.The third part in this article discusses affecting factors of individual choice, including individual need, the individual's outlook on life and values, the situation of selection, the social values and other factors on the impact of individual choice.The fourth part of the article discusses misunderstanding of the individual choice: utilitarian choice, the choice of doctrine conformity, Spontaneous choice, the choice of unconventional. The last part in this article discusses six principles of individual choice: the unity of the main scale and object-scale, the unity of individual needs and social need, the unity of the minimum cost and maximum efficiency, the unity of purpose and the means, the unity of emphasis on the both diversity, the unity of freedom and responsibility.
