Abstract With the development of information technology, the livingcondition is enhanced. In particular, multi-medium technology becomesmore creative. The image compression technology play a important roleIn the multi--medium and networking technology. At first, this thesis introduces the importance of image compressionand JPEG compression standard. Secondly ,the wavelet transformationtheory and its effect in image compression are introduced, especially thepyramidal algorithm and its fast realization--lifting scheme, this schemecan decrease the time and space complexity of wavelet transform greatly.Thirdly, from EZW and SPIHT to JPEG2000 still image compressionstandard, some wavelet coding techniques are especially Introduced, suchas lifting scheme and EBCOT. Then, there is a compare about manyarithmetic above. As for the high computational complexity of two--dimensionalwavelet transform, we propose corresponding simplified method. TakenCDF9/7 filter as an example, this method can make good effect inJPEG2000 by realization with Visual C++. That is to say, the realizationcan decrease the multiplications of lifting scheme, and can improve theperformance considerably.
