Research Of JPEG2000 Image Compression Algorithm Based On Wavelet Transform

ISO has recently released its new image coding standard, JPEG2000 at the end of 2000, which will replaced the original JPEG standard and become the most useful image compress standard all of the world. Rather than incrementally improving on the original standard, jpeg2000 implements an entirely new way of compressing images based on the wavelet transform, in contrast to the discrete cosine transform (DCT) used in the original JPEG standard.This article introduced Wavelet Transform (WT). And its contribution is to do some research on JPEG2000 standard, show us the base theory of JPEG2000, and analysis the every modules in the JPEG2000 encoding /decoding system. To its high complexity, I propose a way to reduce Complexity of JPEG2000. At last, I also have completed some image compress programs based on JPEG2000. The program gives us some useful data. Use this data, you can easily understand that JPEG2000 is much better than JPEG,EZW and SPIHT.
