At present, the world has entered the times of Information Revolution. The display technology and the display devices have play the important role. The portable devices such as TV, computer, mobile phone, DA and so on, and the display screens of the various instruments offer us a great deal of information. The display screen is considered as another development opportunity for electronic industry except for microelectronics and computer in 20th century, because it is the combination of electronics, communication and information processing technology.The Flat Panel Displays have become the main display products after the research, competition and development for more than twenty years. And the TFT-LCD is the only one display, which can compete with CRT in luminance, contrast, power consumption, life, cubage and weight. It will become the main display products and the highlight of global economy increase in new century, depending on its excellent performance, quantity production, high automation, low cost of materials and broad development space.P-Si technology has the potential to integrate driver circuits and pixels on a glass substrate because P-Si has high carrier mobility. The little terminals and high reliability make TFT-LCD lighter and thinner, and cut down the cost greatly. Thus, many researchers have developed small size P-Si TFT-LCD with P-Si TFT peripheral integrated drivers. We also develop the research of P-Si TFT-LCD. Because of the feasibility of P-Si peripheral integrated drivers, CAS organized an important item task research named as "the research of P-Si TFT-LCD peripheral integration", which was taken on by Chang Chun Physics Institute during "ninth five" .One of the main content is the design of P-Si TFT peripheral integrated drivers. So this paper will introduce our research and design of P-Si TFT peripheral integrated drivers.Because P-Si TFT and MOS-FET have the same characteristics ,and CMOS circuit is the main technology of present integrate circuit for its simple configuration, low power consumption and high integrity. So we design and simulate the P-Si TFT peripheral integrated drivers for small-size LCD with Cadence and Hspice.Firstly, we will introduce the display principle of LCD, the characteristics of TFT, the configuration and display principle of TFT-LCD, the driver principle of TFT-LCD and the connection methods of LCD and circuit.Secondly, we will introduce the design of peripheral integrated drivers in details, including gate driver and source driver. The gate driver is composed of bi-directional shifter register, output controller, level shifter and output buffer. The source driver is composed of bi-directional shifter register, analog sampling and hold, output buffer, latch and decoder. We will introduce the configuration of each unit, and simulate it to check.In addition, we will introduce the I/O protection circuits, input buffer and the output buffer, witch will insure the safety of drivers. It is important for the transition from design to application.Finally, we will introduce the whole design of gate driver and source driver and simulate. We can see that our design can satisfy our request for driving the small size TFT-LCD from the simulation result. In another word, we get a phase result. Of course, there are still many jobs to do to transform the design to product. The size and other parameters of the transistors should be adjusted and the configuration should be perfected according to the actual P-Si TFT technics and loads in the future.
