Research On Virtual Reference System Of Sichuan University Library

Reference is a service for answering the reader' s question, and for a long time, it is an important part of the reader service. The tradition reference is a service based on documents that exceptionally offers the reader concrete document, knowledge or the answer access through the personality way. However, with the development of network technology and popularization day by day of the digitized information environment, the tradition reference service received the great challenge, not only in content but also in form, it is all difficult to meet user's demands. In the face of challenging, at the beginning of the eighties of the 20th century, the virtual reference service system were developed by foreign library and information circle, librarian can help those reader not to reach building to be served at mail, telephones, faxes, network or more other ways.The paper has probed into the concept of virtual reference service at first, and has recommended developing the situation of virtual reference service in foreign countries and at home. The second, the paper have probed into the concept, form, main function and operating mechanism of virtual reference service system, and has introduced VRD and CDRS project in detail. The third, the paper has analyzed about the relevant technical standard that is used in the virtual reference service system,and has introduced two standards of KnowBIT and QuIP emphatically. At last, on the basis of what the foregoing paragraphs expounds the fact, the paper analyzed the current situation and demand of virtual reference service at Sichuan University Library, designed a set of virtual reference service system suit to Sichuan University Library, and has introduced its developing on detail. I hope the system can help latecomer in studying and develop virtual reference service. In addition, the paper has put forward some views on developing of virtual reference service system at Sichuan University Library on later stage.
