With the continuous development of Internet technology, today image-based Multimedia Information deeply enriched our life. To solute the problem of how to store so large amount of image, image-compressed technology came into being. JPEG is the most representative, influencing image compression format.This thesis first briefly reviews the development of image compression technique, then introduces a new image-encoding standard -JPEG2000. The wavelet-analysis theory developed by the new image-encoding standard becomes the point of the research of image-compressed technique. To effectively study the wavelet-based image encoding technique, we construct an EZW coder for image compression by using C language. In this thesis, we deeply discuss the different impact about wavelet-analysis image by using different wavelet base. And we study the relation between the scale number of pyramidal decomposition and the image compression quality. Finally we compare the experiment result with JPEG-image, show the cheerful prospect of wavelet-based image compression technology.Recently wavelet combined with fractal technique becomes a hot area, in the last part of this thesis, it's theory is discussed.
