Objective:By analysis six syndromes differentiation system and Formula-Pattern differentiation system, this study aims to investigate their distribution characteristics in vertigo. It can preliminary clarify the rule of Formula-Pattern differentiation system, and then will provide a referential path for treating vertigo with Jingfang.Methods:243 patients with vertigo who met the inclusion criteria were selected. The clinical data, such as general information, past history, the information of four methods of diagnosis, etc. was collected. For each patient, it was firstly differentiated the six syndromes, and then differentiated the Formula-Patterns. With the SPSS software processing the statistical analysis, it showed the distribution of six syndromes and Formula-Patterns, and investigated the relationship between six syndromes and gender, age, three main symptoms and past history.Results:1. Of the 243 patients, there were 22 types of syndromes in six syndromes differentiation system, including 5 single syndromes and 17 combined syndromes. The most common type was Shaoyang syndromes with 61 cases, accounted for 25.10%; and then was Shaoyang and Taiyin combined syndromes (58 cases,23.87%), Taiyang and Shaoyang and Yangming and Taiyin combined syndromes (46 cases,18.93%), Shaoyang and Yangming and Taiyin combined syndromes (27 cases,11.11%) and Shaoyang and Yangming combined syndromes (10 cases,4.12%). However, Taiyang syndromes, Yangming syndromes, Taiyin syndromes, Taiyang and Yangming combined syndromes, Taiyang and Jueyin combined syndromes, Jueyin and Yangming combined syndromes, Shaoyang and Shaoyin and Taiyin combined syndromes were rarely found, which each of them only 1 case (0.4%). Of the 243 patients, Shaoyang and its combined syndromes (including Shaoyang syndromes, Shaoyang and Taiyin combined syndromes, Taiyang and Shaoyang and Yangming and Taiyin combined syndromes, etc.), accounted for 89.30%(217 cases), were most commonly found. There were statistical significant differences in distribution of 22 types through non-parameter test.2. Of the 243 patients, there were 88 Formula-Patterns with the most common one of Xiaochaihu Decoction and Fuling Formula-Pattern (38 cases), and then Xiaochaihu Decoction Formula-Pattern (30 cases), Sini Powder Formula-Pattern (26 cases), Dachaihu Decoction and Guizhi-Fuling Pills Formula-Pattern (12 cases), Xiaochaihu Decoction and GuizhiFuling Pills Formula-Pattern (11 cases), Sini Powder and Fuling Formula-Pattern (11 cases), Xiaochaihu Decoction and Zexie Decoction and Guizhi-Fuling Pills Formula-Pattern (10 cases). Among them, Xiaochaihu Decoction and its combined Formula-Patterns (including Xiaochaihu Decoction Formula-Pattern, Xiaochaihu Decoction and Fuling Formula-Pattern, Xiaochaihu Decoction and Guizhi-Fuling Pills Formula-Pattern, etc.), and Sini Powder and its combined Formula-Patterns (including Sini Powder Formula-Pattern, Sini Powder and Fuling Formula-Pattern, Sini Powder and Zexie Decoction Formula-Pattern, etc.) were found in 134 cases (55.14%) and 66 cases (27.16%) respectively, which were higher than other Formula-Patterns.3. Of the 243 patients, the most common herbs in addition or subtraction were Chuanxiong, Gegen, Tianma and Baijili, which 156 cases,152 cases,149 cases and 97 cases respectively.4. Of the 243 patients, there were no statistical significant differences between six syndromes and gender, age, three main symptoms (vertigo, dizziness, giddiness) and past history.Conclusions:1. All the types of six syndromes can occur in vertigo. Combined syndromes are found more commonly than single syndromes. And, each of the combined syndromes has one main syndromes. Shaoyang and its combined syndromes are the most common type.2. There is a significant difference in the Formula-Patterns in vertigo, and Chaihu and its related decoctions are used more often than others. Combined formulas are found more common than single formulas. In the clinical treatment, it can combined use Jingfang and specialized formulas or herbs.3. Xiaochaihu Decoction and Fuling Formula-Pattern, Xiaochaihu Decoction Formula-Pattern, and Sini Powder Formula-Pattern are the most common Formula-Patterns in vertigo.4. Self-developed Siweiyuntong Decoction is usually used in vertigo.5. The preliminary conclusion in this study may be limited by the samples chosen. What we need to do is to make a further study later.
