Research BackgroundChronic Kidney Disease (CKD) at present in the rapid growth of the global number of cases, the study points out that the national prevalence was 8%~15%,16.2% in Australia, the United States is 11%, Beijing residents in our country is about 33.0%. In patients with chronic kidney Disease (CKD) will eventually develop into end-stage Renal Disease (ESRD:End Stage takes diseases), the way of life is to rely on Renal replacement therapy, and the treatment of hemodialysis is the most common way.Hemodialysis can prolong the life of patients with ESRD, but long-term dialysis itself to the patient and family, not only a heavy burden on society, but also because of its complications reduced patients’ quality of life. Patients with ESRD is not guide MHD (maintenance hemodialysis) leading cause of death, but the study points out that cardiovascular disease accounted for 50% of MHD patients the cause of death, among them with Congestive Heart Failure (CHF:Congestive Heart Failure)has the highest incidence,up about 20%~30% of MHD patients. This research uses the potential mechanisms caused by thirst, combined with Chinese medical Shengmai capsule and auricular therapy to treat patients who has MHD qiyinliangxu symptom. The purpose is to articulate "Qi" through Shengmai capsule, and restore Yin for treatment, combining auricular therapy to adjust organs, treating both internally and externally for therapeutic purposes.ObjectiveThis research uses Chinese medical Shengmai capsule and auricular therapy to treat patients who has MHD syndrome of deficiency of both qi and yin symptom. The purpose is to reduce the patient’s thirst symptoms, reduce other clinical complications such as IWG value and cardiovascular symptoms. It can also take the Chinese medicine’s bianzhen efficiencies to provide better complication treatment for uremic patients.MethodsThis research selected 46 MHD patient that has thirst symptoms. Based on regular treatments (diet, medication, and dialysis) and combine Chinese and Western medication pathogenesis to provide ear pressure pills and Shengmai capsule. Participants who met the research criteria participated in a controlled cross-over method, and provided eight weeks of ear pressure pills and Shengmai capsule for treatment. During the treatments, the patients were simultaneously monitored on:blood, biochemistry pre and post dialysis, pre-dialysis serum albumin, pre-dialysis change in blood sodium concentration, average weight gain IWG, and use of thirst evaluation form. Controlled cross-references was used to discuss the associations between the above methods.ResultIn 46 patients with MHD accompanied by thirsty using thirsty rating scale(XQ), the results show that the treatment group and control group respectively for 8 weeks after treatment in patients with (8,20 weeks), and (0,12 weeks) before treatment, cross comparison results between groups have obvious drop, two groups 8 weeks after treatment in the first stage (F=7.463,P<7.463) and second stage 8 weeks after treatment (F=4.74,P<0.05) to compare the statistically significant changes in serum sodium concentration value, IWG and age, there is no obvious difference. The results showed that in addition to improve the symptoms of thirst in dialysis patients, other symptoms such as insomnia, constipation, much dream, abdominal distension, tinnitus, etc. Also has a certain degree of improvement.ConclusionThirsty can increase IWG easily, improve cardiovascular complications. This research shows that ear pills method combined ShengMai capsule in 8 weeks after treatment, can alleviate MHD patients the symptoms of thirst.
