Objective This research is work that involves trying to discuss properties of medical dressings prepared by marine bioactive extracts prepared by alginate. There are three parts respectively from the hemostatic effect, biocompatibility and antimicrobial properties. Compaired with gauze and gelatin sponge what are commonly used the currently in clinical, the alginate as a new type of medical dressings, is being one of value.Methods Test 1, Using hemostatic experiments in vitro, animal hemorrhage model was established, to apply the above three kinds of hemostatic materials in New Zealand rabbit back on both sides of the wound. Recording the bleeding time, collecting the quality difference between before and after by stopping bleeding. With cyanide methemoglobin detection reagent hemostatic dressing after washing the hemoglobin, the experiment measured the absorbance value of Hb. From above three aspects to evaluate the hemostatic effects, is feasible. Test 2, Preparation of various bleeding dressings’ leaching solution firstly, and then, separately with in vitro hemolysis test, acute systemic toxicity test and CCK-8 colorimetric method in vitro cytotoxicity test were experimented. Test 3, Antibacterial property was made by the oscillation method by which staphylococcus aureus was used as experimental object.Results Test 1, The bleeding time of alginate, gauze and gelatin sponge were 95.28±3.95 s, 138.33±5.98 s, 101.25±4.53s(F=2433.23, P<0.05), Hb photometric absorption value were 1.269±0.011, 1.146±0.013 and 0.013±0.013(F =24764.804, P<0.05). The bleeding quality were 0.921±0.021, 0.900±0.012 g and 0.012 g±0.028 g(F= 3364.499, P<0.05). Test 2, Hemolysis rate of alginate dressings was 0.8%. With injection of alginate fibers of the leaching solution in mice, the alginate group had no significant different symptoms than the negative control group, at the same time, had no acute systemic toxicity response. Cell toxicity of alginate fiber was assessed for level 1. Test 3, Antibacterial rate of alginate fibers was 49%.Conclusion Alginate fiber dressings is of fast hemostasis, and effective control of the bleeding. Hemostatic effect is good by using alginate. Comprehensive evaluation of hemostatic effect is better than that of gelatin sponge and sponge. Cytotoxicity of alginate fiber dressing has the low level, the same as acute systemic toxicity. Beyond that the hemolysis rate is also low. Based on conform to the regulations of the state, the use of standard, alginate showed good biocompatibility. Alginate fiber dressings on staphylococcus aureus of bacterial inhibition, has the certain antimicrobial properties.
