As a worldwide instrument, Yangqin has been integrated into the big traditional folkmusic family and has become the folk instrument with Chinese characteristics, moreover, ithas made great achievement in lots of areas like playing, creating and teaching through thestudy and reformation by several generations since it came into China before hundredyears. But we also saw the unbalance between the development of theoretical research andYangqin art. Theory was the summary of practice, so the theory status analysis of Yangqinart is also the summary of status analysis for the Yangqin art development. Meanwhile, thetheory has the guiding role for the practice, so theory study of Yangqin also has the role topromote and improve art preforming, musical instruments reforming, education andteaching.Theoretical literature is an important medium for people to acquire knowledge and isa product when human cultural developed to a certain stage. It recorded the forefront of thesocial development at that time, and provided study information for later research.Literature made human knowledge breaking the limitations of time and space, so thatfuture generations could stand on the shoulders of our predecessors and move forward.Yangqin theoretical literature recorded the development process of Yangqin, and recordedthat the Yangqin how to evolve from exotic musical accompaniment to an indispensablesolo instrument among the Chinese national musical instruments and how to develop fromnatural state on the private towards professional road.This study focused on Yangqin theoretical literature which was between1949and2013. After the establishment of the new China, the development of theoretical literaturewas divided into three periods, which were: the pre-reform stage (from1949to1978), thetrack stage (from1979to1999) and the increasingly prosperous stage (from2000to2013).Yangqin theoretical study of these three periods had characteristics and the increasinglyrich achievement of their own. The purpose of this study is to make sure the Yangqin artresearch direction and focus for the next stage and to improve the development of Yangqin art by inducting and summarizing the features during its development and by finding outthe blind spot of theoretical literature.
