Research On Richard Strauss' Late Artistic Songs

Richard Strauss, as a representative of late Romantic music style, is one of themost important composers during the late19thcentury and early20thcentury. Hepushes ahead a little step on creation of art songs, following Brahms, Wolf andMahler. He has created more than200art songs in his lifetime. Three creativeperiods can be divided based on characteristics of musical creation and lyriccontents, including early, middle and late stage. This paper selected the mostrepresentative three song cycles from Richard Strauss’s late art songs to regard asresearch objects, as well as conducted deep study on language, musical form, musicstyle and singing requirements, etc. aspects of these three song cycles for the sake ofprofoundly understanding Richard Strauss’s late art songs through analysis on thesethree song cycles, and then exploring the artistic value in music history of his lateart songs.
