The lengthy life of Richard Strauss (1864-1949) has covered the period in which 19th century lieders prevailed, whose most songs embody romanticist style. Although song writing seems"weaker"for him, compared with his other respects, songs still represent several important periods in his life. This essay, through analysis upon some early works like《Dedication》,《Allhallowmas》,《Secret invitation》etc.,cultivate prominently from aspects such as background, artistic style, presentation character and significance for teaching. The author realizes, the combination of poetry and drama characterized his early lieders, which carries vital significance in terms of singing and teaching. As the treasure in the history of 19th century German and Australian lieders and a milestone for late romanticist style, the early lieders of Richard Strauss promised the coming of the 20th century modernist pluralistic style.
