This report, targeting to analyse three traditional styles of the art of vocal music in Xinfeng,conducts initial research about the relationship among their tones, which is based on the foundationof the investigation on local fields. This report comprises five parts. The first part focus on theexperiments on single or dual tones after investigation for Xinfeng’s dialect is performed in localareas. To derive the result that Xinfeng’s dialect is formed with single and dual tones, Dialectsurvey method and experimental method from experimental phonetics are both employed in thisstudy. Part two to part4emphasize the precise analyses for the relationship of the tonality ofmelody and lyrics among three different art forms-Hakka folk songs in Xinfeng, Xinfeng Quyimusic represented by Hakka script and Xinfeng drama music represented by tea-picking drama inGannan. Relationships among sound-type mono-syllable tone and phonetic-sandhi are alsoincluded in these parts. Methodology that combines the qualitative analysis and quantitative analysisis used in these three parts to achieve the result about the overall structure in the relationships of thetonality of melody and lyrics in Xinfeng’s folk music. The final part of this report compares theconnections among three forms of the tonality of melody and lyrics and explores how theconstruction of them formed in the first place. By associating with current references, historicalmaterials, this part also explains the rationale behind it.
