Chinese Title, Modest Study

This essay studies the honorific titles and modest titles of the ancientChinese and modern Chinese. The honorific titles and modest titles have existed sinceancient times.They have been highly respected and widely used in the Chinese nationwho pay attention to ceremony and played an important role in communication.Although the Chinese scholars study the honorific titles and modest titles for a longtime making a great progress in the quantity and quality, there is no systematic andcomprehensive results. We need to do comprehensive and profound study of thesystem.This essay attempts to make a detailed and comprehensive analysis of thehonorific titles and modest titles.Firstly,it is ahout the classification,diachronicdescription and the origin and development of the title,and then probes into the doopcultural connotation.Then,research the honorific titles and modest titles in thediachronic comparison,so as to see the change of social history and cultural history.Inthe concrete elaboration process,Chapter One is about the definition and criteria of thehonorific titles and modest titles in the strict sense.The second chapter is mainly aboutclassification.The third and fourth chapters,carry on the classification andinterpretation,then to explore features,and on this basis to explain their cultureconnotation.To understand the social history and cultural change is the essay’s significance.
