Taiyuan, as the capital city of Shanxi Province, is the centre of the economic and cultural development of Shanxi. Taoism, since the day when it was introduced into Shanxi, has occupied a special place in the cultural development of Taiyuan. So to make a comprehensive and systematic study of Taoist Cultural Development in Taiyuan shall be conducive to the development of Taoism itself, but also extend and stimulate the Taoist culture to a larger degree in Taiyuan. The first chapter is an introduction that introduces the relevant study of Taoist Cultural Development in Taiyuan as well as the purpose, the significance, the scope, the content, the methods and the problems that were expected to be solved of this article. The second chapter mainly introduces the evolution and the present basic situation of Taoist Cultural Development in Taiyuan. According to the historical records, Taoism was introduced into Taiyuan as far back as the Western Han Dynasty of Emperor Liu Heng and the great expansion of the Taoist in Taiyuan was during the Northern Wei Dynasty of Emperor Taiwu. And it got to the most prosperous period in Tang Dynasty. Later on during the Five Dynasties Period and Song, Jin, Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties, Taoism still developed in a certain degree. But during the troublous times of Republic of China, Taoist temples were abandoned and its believers scattered, and it suffered the serious declination in the1940s. It was not until the founding of the New China in1949that Taoism was gradually restored in Taiyuan. The three Taoist cultural sites in Taiyuan are introduced in detail when introduces the present basic situation of Taoist Cultural Development in Taiyuan. First, Juxian Palace Taoist Cultural. Juxian Palace, formerly known as Liulang Temple, is located at the foot of Taiyuan Xishan Mountain. The Palace was built during the year of41of the reign of Wanli in Ming Dynasty, then it was on the decline gradually after the liberation. In2007, the Temple began to be repaired and restored. Now the palace has basically restored it’s original appearance. So far it is one of the largest Taoist temples in Taiyuan formally approved by the Government to open to the public. Second, Longshan Taoist Culture. Longshan, which is located in the southern suburbs of Taiyuan, is a famous mountain in Taiyuan. On the South Peak of the mountain there are Haotian Palace and some Taoist grotto. Now, Haotian Palace is still restoring and Longshan grottoes need to be protected further. Third, Chunyang Palace Taoist Culture. Chunyang Palace, which is located in the northwest corner of Taiyuan Wuyi Square, is dedicated to Lv Dongbin, and the Palace is also named Lvzu Temple. The Palace is oriented north and south, covering an area of9924square meters and it is said to be built during Song and Yuan Dynasties. Now it is used as the Arts Exhibition Hall of Shanxi Province Museum. In the third Chapter, the existing problems of the Taoist cultural development in Taiyuan are discussed. First, from a general perspective, there are four issues:inadequate attention and support from different social sectors; places and facilities for Taoist are insufficient; the organization of Taoist is not perfect and lacks talents; the cultural activities of Taoist have been carried out are insufficient. And to be specific, the existing three Taoist cultural sites in Taiyuan have also their own shortages. First, the problems of Juxian Palace: the palace hasn’t been restored perfectly and the size of the palace is too small; lacks scientific management mechanism; lacks talents; the cultural activities of Taoist are insufficient. Second, the problems of Longshan: Haotian Palace hasn’t been restored completely and Longshan Grottoes need proper conservation; in the future, the development of Longshan scenic spot maybe exists commercial operation and it will make Longshan Taoist Culture not pure. Third, the problems of Chunyang Palace: the buildings outside Chunyang Palace don’t match with the surroundings; the palace is still out of the hand of any Taoist organization. In Chapter V, corresponding measures for the problems discussed in the above chapter are put forward. Generally speaking, different social sectors need to cooperate with each other, give more attention to develop the cultural undertakings of Taoist; complete the construction of the places and facilities for Taoist; make the organization of Taoist perfectly and develop talents; actively carry out all kinds of cultural activities of Taoist. According to the three Taoist activities, there also have specific countermeasures. First, the countermeasures to solve the problems of Juxian Palace: restores the palace perfectly and scale up the size of the palace; innovates in the management of the organization; develops talents, strengthening the construction of personnel; starts autotrophic career, promotes the development of cultural activities of Taoist. Second, the countermeasures to solve the problems of Longshan:restores Haotian Palace completely and take measures in the conservation of Longshan Grottoes; attaches great importance to the development of the Taoist culture in Longshan scenic spot, avoids commercialization. Third, the countermeasures to solve the problems of Chunyang Palace:carries out comprehensive governance in the surrounding environment; regulates the management and use of the palace.Based on the above chapters, the author believes that Taiyuan is a place of profound Taoist culture, but with the historical changes, Taoism has experienced a gradual fading, although there is some gradual restoration and development after the founding of New China. And there are still many problems in the development of Taoism culture in Taiyuan, which restricts the development of Taoism. Thus, after analyzing these problems, taking into consideration of the actual situation in Taiyuan, the author proposes some corresponding measures, which may be helpful for the Taoist cultural development in Taiyuan.
