A Study Of The Characters In Babel 's "Cavalry Army"

This dissertation mainly focuses on the study of the characters’ images in "RedCavalry”, which is written by the Soviet writer Isaac Babel. There are four types ofcharacters in this work: the Cossacks, the Jewish people, the female and the narrator.The character’ s image contains the external image (such as appearance, language,action, etc.) and the thought image (such as the psychological states, the view of life, thevalues and the relationships between people and the surroundings, etc.). Thisdissertation mainly focuses on the thought images of the characters, exploring thecomplicated spiritual world of the above said four types of characters. However, imagesof these four groups are not isolated each other, and their destinies are crossed with eachother in the original battle scene. Meanwhile, the techniques of creating the charactersand artistic features get concluded and summarized in this dissertation.
