This paper discussed on Giorgio Vasari’s(1511-1574)nation of progress in art history, in his Lives of the Artists, and he was the famous artist and architect in Renaissance.The nation of progress is a substantive difference between the writing of art history in the past, Vasari’s Lives absorbed predecessors manners at the same time, and this book wasn’t isolated and loose, For Vasari, the history of art is a series of steps made up of the contributions of individuals. He broke predecessor’s style based on chronological, he intruduced historical development into the art of history, it influenced17th,18th and even now the writing of art history. Undoubtedly this is the greatest contribution to the discipline of art history.This paper attempts to discuss several art concepts through the use of Vasari’s writing in art history (such as disegno, imenzione), explore Vasari’s progressive view of history. We find Vasari use of the concepts of art were not the ultimate purpose, while it was only a means. The history of art became solve practical problems in art history.These notions were not Vasari’s invention, they were inheritance and deepen for the last and now.He put the Roman orator writing manners applied to the writing of art history. Although these concepts are very theoretical, but Vasari is focused on observation and practice attitude to the artist rather than theorists compiled.
