Solitude was a main topic that ran through Garcia Marquez’s literary creation. He claimed himself a writer’specialized in expressing the feeling of solitude’. Most of his works were focused on solitude, like that concerning the rights, love, existence and so on. In his works, solitude implied not only the essence of human’s loneliness, but also the unique national sentiments in Latin America. The author found Garcia Marquez’s works strongly tragic in reading for he always portrayed the solitude with death as the background. For this reason, the author tried to entirely contemplate his literary creation on the basis of careful reading, with the aim at analyzing his value judgment and creative intention hidden in the depths of text. The author noted that the death mainly appeared in three forms in Garcia Marquez’s stories:First one referred to the images of the ghosts caused by individual death; second one referred to the ruin of his spiritual home—Macondo; last one was the highlighted stagnation led by continuous cyclic model. Accordingly, the author divided the article into four chapters. In chapter one, three forms of death would be clearly defined in accordance with the texts; chapter two stressed to analyze the solitude appearing in three forms of death; based on archetypal criticism, chapter three stressed to analyze the underlying causes and values of the solitude concerning death; in the last chapter, the author would unearth ways proposed by Garcia Marquez to solve the solitude concerning death. The analysis of Garcia Marquez’s solitude with death as the background broadened the space in interpreting the texts.
