| Museum, as a novelty, was introduced from abroad into China back in the beginning of20th century. Art Museum, one of many different museums, has undergone a period of winding path within its less-than-100-year history. Tianjin Museum of Art founded in1930was considered to be the first museum founded in the current history of China. The Chinese Art Museum career accompanied by social unrest and transitions, having grown from nothing, has experienced from its formative period to its prosperity today.With the huge developments of the country, the development of Art Museum in China is also bounded tightly with status of the society.The usage and function of Art Museum have changed greatly with the changing process of time and social situation. From the start of the Chinese Modern History, through the period of Republic of China to the early days of the Republic, then to end of the Culture Revolution, and finally to current stage after reform and opening-up, the Chinese Art Museum has experienced from scratch to its prosperity today via the recession during the long process.The main function of the Art Museum has also changed during the history, from no fixed exhibition places to today’s independent systems that make people enter the museums by themselves; from the political tool of leftism to the culture center of exhibitions and lectures with certain amount of collections. The Chinese have benefitted from it, and started to pay attention and show interests to the Art Museums and to participate in the activities held by them. Apparently the Art Museums have become the important places where spiritual food can be provided to the people and the great camp where Chinese Art Career and Culture Career can be developed continually. The Art Museums, at the same time, shoulder the missions of collecting fine arts, the spreading of the study results of Chinese Art Career and the displaying of exhibition of the art and the function of educating people on aesthetics and communications. |
