What is art?Countless art theorists have been constantly searching and exploringthe thing.Expressionist aesthetics is the first important aesthetics school in the20thcentury,its artistic view has a tremendous influence on the entire modern westernaesthetics.Expressionism epitomizing Robin George Collingwood is not only inheritedthe aesthetic thoughts of Benedetto Croce,but also improved and promoted his arttheory,put forward that the art is artists’ expression of their own feelings by creating animaginary experience or activity for themselves.This article is mainly aimed at theanalysis of Collingwood’s later artistic view,respectively from tne emotional expressionof art,art as total imaginative experience,art and language of the same and other aspectsto make a specific interpretation,explore how did Collingwood inherit and furtherclarify the expressionist theory of Croce,how to explore the expression,imagination andthe relationship between art and language more deeply,so as to reveal the transformationof Collingwood to the traditional art view and have an important influence on the artview of modern aesthetics.
