This article focuses on researching of a case in world of music, opera “Maria deBuenos Aires”created by musician Astor Piazzolla from Argentina, showing thevariation of traditional opera elements and blending of New Tango, in order to callup attention to an opera from a non-mainstream country.This dissertation is divided into two parts.Part one states the variation of traditional opera elements showing this opera.Through comparison with traditional opera elements in particularity of design,freedom of singing setting up, emphasizing of proportion between singing andinstrumental, it shows the artistic difference from traditional operas.Part two states how New Tango is blended in and what dramatic effect is caused.Through specific analysis to characteristics of rhythm, thesis statement, and acoustic,it shows the feasibility for Tango Nuevo, such a pop music, to blend in classic musicgenre and the special artistic charm we get from it.In the end, there is a discussion in the epilogue regarding influence caused bythis opera in both fields of Tango and Opera.
