Since the founding of China, the accordion became a well-known musical instrument. But in the past 20 years, due to various reasons, accordion suddenly turned to be unpopular, only welcomed by a minority. Development of accordion is the responsibility of contemporary accordionist, and diversification is the only way for the revival of the accordion. Therefore, this paper takes Piazzolla’s "New Tango" as the study object, expecting to contribute to the diversification of accordion.Astor Pantaleon Piazzolla is a famous Argentine bandoneon player and composer. He skillfully mixed classical music, modern jazz and Argentine folk music together and abandoned the simple musical forms that accompanied the dancing that elevated the traditional tango to a new artistic height and formed a "New Tango" style. Meanwhile Piazzolla introduced this accordion style to contemporary chamber music field, and made an essential contribution to the development of accordion chamber music in terms of composition techniques and musical performance.This paper is divided into three parts. The first chapter reviews the origin and development of tango. The second chapter introduces Piazzolla and the rise of the "New Tango". Chapter Three analyzes the constituent elements of "New Tango" music. Chapter Four introduces playing techniques of the new style of tango music. The fifth chapter briefly overviews the heritage of "New Tango" by contemporary young accordion players. This paper provides a brief analysis of features of Piazzolla’s "New Tango" style by reviewing the account of Piazzolla’s life, his representative work "Four Seasons of Buenos Aires" from constituent elements, mode, tonality, harmony characteristic, rhythm, instrument configuration and other aspects. The author hopes that through her efforts in performing practice of Piazzolla’s music and exploration of related musical theories, she will make a contribution to the diversified and national development of accordion.
